Transforming broken bicycle parts into a usable object

Netherlands being the country of many bicycles, there are also tons of waste from it. I wanted to do my part in reducing the waste by introducing a method to transform the old bike parts into a usable object, ultimately giving it a second life.

Solution

As the second part of this project, I designed a functional table lamp using a bicycle fender, pannier rack, and chainring. The fender acts as the lamp hood, while the other components provide balance and space for electronics. The prototypes shown are early explorations using the fender.

Making Process

I used bike fenders because they are rarely recycled, as they are mostly made of plastic.

The process involved disassembling old bicycles, reassembling the parts into a lamp, welding components, and spray painting for color.
